Family PASS is often approached by people in the community wishing to help with specific client-identified needs. Many of these people already contribute generously to the organization as volunteers and donors but they also often want to provide additional help in the form of gift cards or items that will assist our families, especially our children. The Friends in Deed program formally provides an opportunity for people to make a specific donation for a specific family need.
One important aspect of the Family PASS program for homeless families or those at risk of homelessness in Fairfax County is what we refer to as Quality of Life. The Family PASS program provides the most critical needs: rent subsidies, transportation, childcare and education, but these families, working hard to achieve economic self-sufficiency, often have to forego “lesser” expenditures that many of us take for granted. Although their needs are great all year round, as we move into spring, we typically see additional needs for our families and especially our children. Items that go beyond a family’s current budget that help children participate fully at school and in the community include:
- athletic activity fees
- school activity and registration fees such as field trips
- sports equipment and uniforms
- musical instrument rental
- school supplies
We are currently in need of individuals who are willing to contribute to meet the special needs of our clients.
